HOUSE IN GABICCE MARE

Gabicce Mare (Italy)

A project to recover an old farmhouse has led to the construction of this private house, under architectural constraint, located on the hills surrounding Gabicce Mare within the San Bartolo Park.
The complex intervention has affected the supporting structure in its whole, except for maintaining intact the dominant architectural “character”, not modifiable. This resulted in a slow and complicated process of transformation that led to the re-use of a volume in a state of advanced neglect and degradation.
After the total demolition of the incongruous internal scores and the recovery of its structural skeleton, two symmetrical bodies, lateral to the main one, have been inserted and misaligned by inserting a central connecting porch. The acquired open space has thus allowed the creation of a fluid daily environment where the gaze runs free, without limitation.
All the materials used are part of the architectural restoration that this type of intervention requires.

The intervention is completed by an entirely novel designed open space in which the walkways, whose sinuous geometry resembles the contours of the surrounding hills, will highlight for surface treatment and for the singular lighting in “negative”.
